Islamic Art Fair Director Fired Over Offensive Artwork

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - Jack Persekian, the director of The Sharjah Biennial in the United Arab Emirates has been fired on orders from Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed al-Qasimi. The contemporary art fair seeks to balance artists freedom of expression while respecting a host of cultural and religious sensitivities. Officials in Sharjah announced Wednesday that Sheikh found a work by one artist offensive. The work has been removed from the show, which remains open until May 16. [Source: Artsbeat]
