CHINA - An exhibition of artist Li Di is being held at the Today Art Museum in Beijing, showcasing an array of works he created during his life in Germany over the past two decades. Entitled Running in Spiritual Fields and curated by the famous art impresario Huang Du, the exhibition marks Li's first solo exhibition in China since he went abroad to study in the 1990s. Having graduated from the oil depart-ment of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), Li was one among the first genera-tion of Chinese avant-garde artists and has won several awards for his artistic creations. His paintings fuse traditional Chinese ink painting with Western artistic traditions such as German New Expressionism, resulting in an experimental style all his own. The artist said he was thrilled to see his works being exhibited in China after more than 20 years living and working overseas. "China has always been the inspiration for my art, even though I've adopted many West-ern painting styles," he said. The exhibition runs through April 17.
