MASSACHUSETTS - Conceptual art encounters the mysteries of Christian faith through Angela Glajcar's monumental fiberglass sculpture in St. Joseph Memorial Chapel at the College of the Holy Cross. For her first American work, the German artist created "Curalium" from 90 sheets of fiberglass that, at first glance, appear to be floating above an aisle running between rows of pews down the center of the church nave. In a joint essay about the exhibit titled "Sacred Space," Rev. Mennekes and professor of art history Virginia Raguin wrote: "It has, when we allow its influence, a power to drag us out of the depths and to nurture in us an atmosphere of transformative feeling. We are ultimately absorbed, not in our small selves, but in the other that is beyond, unknown, eternal and beautiful." The "Curalium" display runs through May 16, 2011 at St. Joseph Memorial Chapel, College of the Holy Cross, 1 College Square, Worcester. [Source: Milford Daily Press]
