VIKING: LONG BEACH CITY COLLEGE
March 2, 2011
CALIFORNIA--Traneisha Johnson uses her photography to spread her message by opening art galleries. She has recently opened Impact, an art gallery featuring photographs with subject matter based on Christian faith. Johnson said, "It was harder to open than my first gallery due to the content. Not everyone will appreciate religion, but everyone can appreciate art." A walk around her gallery will present the viewer with up to 16 different stories told through sets of photos. The stories from the Bible range from Joseph to Jacob to Job. When talking about why she opened the gallery, she said, "I wanted to influence people to dream and press through their hard times. If someone like me can do this, then people can still dream. I persevered so my son could experience a different lifestyle from the one I had to grow up with." The gallery is part of Phantom Galleries L.A., an organization that transforms unoccupied storefront windows into public art galleries. The exhibit is on display on the Long Beach Promenade next to the Cellar dinner club at 218 The Promenade North and will be opened by Johnson on the weekends until March 12. [link]
